Hello, Today I have to write about a very serious topic. If you are unaware with Net Neutrality, it is basically a law that states that everything done on the internet is on an equal ground. Meaning every website has to be treated equally, with speed, with accessibility, and all other features you can think of.
Recently on Nov 22nd, the FCC stated they would get rid of this beautiful thing we have known as Net Neutrality. This is an awful awful awful thing!, If they manage to take Net Neutrality away from us, this could mean terrible things. Without the Net Neutrality Law protecting an equal ground for the internet, cable companies would be able to charge you extra to use certain websites, or maybe even slow a website down so slow that it cant even load to get rid of competition. This is an invasion of our rights, our privacy and even worse, I believe this is truly theft!. Can you imagine going on youtube to watch your favorite videos to see a message saying “sorry, please pay another 10$ to access youtube” This would be completely unfair! Especially to youtube, Youtube is Google’s own company, who are the cable companies to say what they can and can not do with their company?
Due to this, this could really destroy so many careers online, the reason I say this, the USA is already in a bad economic state, there are many people who already cant really afford the internet as is, and if they were add additional charges just to access our everyday websites such as our social media, online shopping stores, or maybe even our banks!, they could kick users who cant afford this process off the internet completely. With the huge cut of people who are no longer able to access the internet, this will result in less traffic to many websites, and the less traffic a website gets the worse it will get. Websites need traffic to survive, and for the up and new coming websites (Such as myself :[ ) It will be a serious struggle with the internet population being cut severely. Which also means many new ideas will have a very hard time getting off the ground, this is hurting the future tremendously. How will the next greatest website ever grow with a handicap this big??
The next way it could ruin careers is due to the cable companies having complete control over the internet. They could literally slow down the speeds of any website resulting in the website dying off, and once that website has died off, the cable companies could advertise something else just like the website that they had killed off. This is an act of theft and it is just wrong in so many Places. I have always aspired to create a living for myself over the internet but if Net neutrality is repealed this is no longer possible for me 🙁
How we can Protect Net Neutrality!
The FCC’s Member Ajit Pai, has proposed to end Net Neutrality, and a vote will take place with all Five Members of The FCC consisting of Ajit Pai, Michael O’Rielly, Brendan Carr, Mignon Clyburn, and Jessica Rosenworcel. These Five individuals will vote on the 14th of December 2018. Ajit, Michael, and Brendan are all in favor of ending net neutrality while Mignon, and Jessica wish to save it. We need to do everything we can to try and sway one of the three FCC members over! If we can do so we will save Net Neutrality!, The internet is a human right in my opinion! It should not be inaccessible due to the amount of money you have, and you shouldn’t be limited on what you would like to do on the internet, the internet also allows many people to create a life that they can love, we cannot lose this right!
Please Contact the FCC Below and Save our Right to the internet! Below is information and many links you can use to help net neutrality.
